"Divine Wish"
I've wanted children for as long as I can remember. I don't believe in linear time. I think the past, present and future exists all around us all the time. I love my future children with all my heart, as if they were already in my arms. I dreamed one night of this exact image. I knew when I woke that I had to paint it. It just seemed natural, to paint a mother and child. I couldn't help myself.
When considering a background, however, I was lost. A friend of mine is a harpist and, on a song titled "Willow Tree" she wrote: "There was a willow tree that grew in a playground near a home where I grew up. The idea that the leaves fell like a woman's hair fascinated me and the tree became personified as a companion and friend." When considering how to represent a future, unknown companion, the idea of those delicate, yet protective willow branches stuck in my mind.
This is my divine wish. And one of my favorite pieces.
